Among them, the backlight device revenue increased by more than 100% year-on-year. Another Jufei Optoelectronics, which mainly focuses on small and medium-sized backlight business, achieved operating revenue of 495 million yuan in 2012, an increase of 42.75% year-on-year; net profit of 92 million yuan, an increase of 14.15% year-on-year. Dongshan Precision, which has large-size backlights as its mainstay, achieved an accumulated revenue of 537 million yuan in 2012, of which LED TV backlight products were about 525 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.5 times.
In the Taiwan area of ​​China, the big factory Everlight Electronics, with its long-term advantages in LED backlighting, achieved 2.31 billion yuan in revenue in 2012. Dongbei Optoelectronics and Lunda Electronics also benefited from the continued heating of LED backlight orders, and finally got rid of the 2011 deficit. However, squeezed by manufacturers in mainland China, second-tier LED packaging manufacturers in Taiwan gradually lost their original market share in the field of backlight devices.
According to GLII statistics, the monthly production capacity of LED backlight devices in mainland China will exceed 2000kk in 2013. It is expected that mainland LED backlight devices will enter a period of concentrated production capacity release in 2014, which will further squeeze the original market share of LED backlight manufacturers in Taiwan. At the same time, with the development of TV display technology, the importance of packaging companies on new technologies and the development process will directly affect the final performance of China, the world ’s largest TV demand market, and will also become a key factor in the formation of the new market pattern. .
Strong push 7020
A few days ago, it was reported that international TV manufacturers pushed for narrow bezel designs to highlight the differences in their side-emitting products. At present, LED manufacturers such as Samsung, LG Innotek, Dongbei, and Everlight are competing to launch a new generation of 7020 and 7030 backlight devices with higher luminous efficiency and thinner type.
It is understood that mainland LED backlight device manufacturers are not to be outdone. Ruifeng Optoelectronics, Zhaochi, Wanrun Technology, and Guangzhou Jingke all clearly told reporters that they have begun to import.
As a new form of packaging, 7020 can be used to design thinner LED-backlit TV solutions. At present, the width of the commonly used 4014 is only 1.4 mm, and the light guide plate can basically achieve about 3T-2.5T, thereby effectively reducing the cost of the light guide plate and ensuring the light output efficiency. The new size 7020 light guide plate can basically reach about 3T. With 2T lamp beads, the light incidence rate and light output efficiency will be improved. Based on the 7020 power range of 0.4-0.8W, it can have multiple uses. Because the appearance time of 7020 is relatively short, its scale effect has not yet fully manifested.
Zhaochi imported 7020 at the end of last year, and the current shipment is about 20kk per month. Guangzhou Jinko was introduced in early 2012, and the monthly shipments are only about 50kk. At present, the production capacity of the two companies is supplied to several mainland TV manufacturers. "According to the single 7020, its cost is about 5% higher than the 5630 currently used in large quantities. However, as the scale advantage manifests, it will be very advantageous from the point of view of the LED backlight TV package." Guangzhou Jinke R & D Manager Weineng Ou said that the 7020 package is more suitable for LED-backlit TVs larger than 32 inches.
However, the 7020 as an edge-lit backlight device also faces life cycle issues. Longsheng, the sales director of Ruifeng Optoelectronics, pointed out that at present, the market share of 32-inch and 42-inch TVs is relatively high, and there is a trend toward larger sizes.
Although the brightness of a single LED is gradually increasing and the amount of usage is gradually decreasing, the size of the TV is getting larger and larger, so the development of a larger backlight device size does not have much cost advantage. Previously, people in the industry generally believed that the direct type is the focus of future development. Once the direct type product technology is mature, there will be no market for the side-entry backlight device, especially in terms of small size.
"Now the LED market is changing rapidly. The 7020 model may only be a passenger. Whether it can become a mainstream model depends on the future market performance." Liu Ping, general manager of Wanrun Technology's SMD business department, said that the larger the size of the backlight device, the greater The technical difficulty is also greater.
EMC battle
It is worth noting that in the TV application market in mainland China, the development of 7020 is advancing in the controversy. Lin Junmin, the head of Everlight Electronics, said that their new generation 7020 solution introduces a new epoxy molding compound (EMC) for high-performance wire supports, and the luminous efficiency can also reach 90lm / w. Based on the analysis of the LED component cost structure, the wire bracket accounts for about 15% of the LED component's BOM. In other words, the new generation 7020 will cost 15% less than the traditional 7020 and 7030 developed using PCT and PA9T plastics.
Judging from the current market feedback, there are very few companies that really import EMC, and most of them are concentrated in the lighting field. This kind of highly integrated packaging form using the new Epoxy material and etching technology in the packaging of the Molding equipment. "EMC is the first semiconductor technology developed in Japan. In order to expand market share, they began to transfer this technology to mainland China." Currently, backlight devices in overseas markets are basically already dominated by EMC.
If EMC is one of the mainstream technologies of backlight devices in the future, the speed of introduction of the mainland market will greatly affect their continued competitiveness in the future.
"There are indeed two types of backlight brackets, namely PCT and EMC. But for 7020, PCT bracket can already meet the demand." Quan Jinsong, general manager of Zhaochi LED business department believes that EMC bracket current can achieve 0.8W , But there is no need to achieve such high power in side-emitting devices. On the contrary, the power is too high. With the decrease of the number of lights used, it is easy to appear the phenomenon of lamp shadow or individual lights being too bright.
According to the statistics of Zhongyi Kang, the ranking of LED TV sales brands in March this year was Hisense, Skyworth, TCL, Konka, Changhong, Haier, Samsung, Sharp, Sanyo, Sony. Domestic TVs have occupied half of the market, and domestic backlight device manufacturers are more inclined to cooperate with the research and development progress of domestic TVs in terms of product introduction.
"The mainland LED backlit TV design is about half a year slower than abroad, but as soon as the plan is confirmed, 7020 will be introduced in large quantities immediately. For domestic packaging plants, 7020 is just a change in specifications." Ou Weineng said that from the perspective of the development of Guangzhou Jinko EMC, the production cost advantage is not obvious, even higher than the cost of using PCT stents. But we must see that EMC does not currently have an advantage in terms of cost, but it is still a technological trend in the future, and it is necessary to continue to increase research and development efforts. Chen Hua, R & D manager of Ruifeng Optoelectronics, believes that EMC is the future development trend of packaging technology, but it is not necessarily limited to the size of 7020.
In fact, the evolution from PLCC to QFN is also the trend of IC packaging, and LED packaging only conforms to this trend. The mastery of new technology is only a matter of time. The difference between mainland China LED packaging companies and Taiwan and other regions in this respect is actually not very big. In some areas, it is even ahead. "But if the trend of new technologies is not kept up in time, it is inevitable to be eliminated by the market." Long Sheng believes that from the technical reserve, mainland backlight device manufacturers are basically synchronized with international giants such as Nichia and Seoul Semiconductor.
