Spreadtrum pushes quad-core chips: not chasing 4G reverse targeting 3G users

Qualcomm and MTK mainly lay the 4G chip market, while Spreadtrum will launch the 3G low-end and 2G markets.

Recently, domestic chip supplier Spreadtrum launched a highly integrated TD-SCDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE multi-mode quad-core smartphone platform using the 28nm process, SC883XG. This product helps achieve high performance and low power consumption, helping mobile phone manufacturers develop high-end mobile phones with cost-effective solutions.

For the time being, I don’t look at the chip parameters. It is understood that in the 28nm quad-core TD-SCDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE chip market, Qualcomm, MTK and Lianxin have all achieved mass production in the last year, and some even last year. In the past six months, I have turned to LTE. Now, is Spreadtrum launching such a chip?

It is understood that SC883XG uses quad-core ARM Cortex A7 architecture, clocked at up to 1.4GHz, dual-core graphics processor ARM Mali 400 MP, supports TD-SCDMA/HSPA(+), GSM/GPRS/EDGE, dual card dual standby function .

This does not seem to be the "desired" of the current terminal manufacturers, because China Mobile, which they rely on, has clearly requested that the products that are warehousing in June must be five models supporting TDD-LTE. Obviously, Spreadtrum’s core product has another intention.

Look at some data first. As of February this year, the total number of China Mobile users reached 771.86 million, of which 3G users exceeded 200 million. The latest data shows that its 4G users exceeded 8 million. This set of data shows that although the current 4G market is in full swing, most of China Mobile's users, even Telecom and China Unicom, are still 2G and 3G users, and the market of Spreadtrum chips has been locked in this area, so it is not difficult to understand the release of this. Core product.

"At present, global smart phones are developing rapidly, and terminal products equipped with quad-core processors are still attracting more and more consumers' attention," said Dr. Li Liyou, Chairman and CEO of Spreadtrum Communications Co., Ltd.

From the current chip market structure, Qualcomm basically locks in the mid-to-high-end market, and is mainly based on 4G; MTK is in the middle and low-end market, and is shifting to 4G. It can be said that it is closely following Qualcomm; both Lianxin and Spreadtrum are facing the low-end of 3G. The end market, in which Lianxin is also transitioning to 4G, then the remaining 3G low-end, and the existing 2G market has become the blue ocean for Spreadtrum.

According to the data provided by Spreadtrum, in the global baseband chip market share last year, Spreadtrum ranked third with a 17% share, second only to Qualcomm and MTK, mainly distributed in the Asia-Africa market, covering 2G and 3G users.

In terms of products, SC883XG supports 2D/3D graphics acceleration, 1080p HD video, 8 megapixel camera, professional ISP image processing engine, 1080P HD video hard decoding and HD HD video, auxiliary camera anti-shake, and screen shooting with film quality.

In addition, it also integrates Spreadtrum WIFI/Bluetooth/FM/GPS four-in-one connection chip, supports Android 4.4 version, and is equipped with Spreadtrum user interface system, which can be customized for customers. Spreadtrum SC883XG offers significant advantages in power control, thermal management and chip size due to the state-of-the-art process technology available at the commercial level.

It is reported that Spreadtrum SC883XG has begun to provide samples, and is expected to put into mass production in the second half of this year.
