Philips will supply 200,000 MasterLED lamps to Africa
It is reported that Philips will supply 200,000 MasterLED lamps for Africa, which is one of the largest LED lighting orders signed by Africa.
Under the agreement, Philips will work with Eskom (South African utility company) to replace 50W halogen lamps in hotels, banks, office buildings and retail stores with 7W and 10W LED lights. Philips expects the program to save 58 GWh of electricity per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 60,000 tons per year.
Eskom said that South Africa is facing a situation of energy shortages, although it is investing in new power plants to produce enough electricity to meet medium and long-term demand, but improving energy efficiency is the most effective solution to ensure short-term power supply.
