Vishay launches new ultra-thin, ultra-bright, ultra-small ChipLED

Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. introduced a series of ultra-thin, ultra-bright LEDs, VLMx1300, in the smallest SMD 0604 package. The new VLMx1300 series of LEDs uses innovative ChipLED technology to pave the way for higher performance, more flexible designs, and more powerful but smaller form factor products. The 0603 VLMx1300 LED can be used in small, high-brightness products that must work reliably in demanding environments.

All LEDs in the VLMx1300 series are mounted on a 1.6 mm x 0.8 mm x 0.55 mm high-reliability PCB with an extremely wide viewing angle of 130°. Colors include red, light orange, yellow, yellow-green, pure green, blue, and white. These color LEDs use ultra-bright AllnGaP and InGaN technologies (different technologies depending on color), with a luminous intensity of up to 450mcd at 20mA forward current and up to 3.8V forward voltage. The blue LED has a protection diode with ESD protection up to 8000V. At a forward current of 5 mA and a maximum forward voltage of 3.15 V, the maximum luminous intensity of the white LED is 180 mcd. The low profile, superior brightness and reliability of the VLMx1300 ChipLED series make color LEDs a backlight for keyboards, navigation systems, mobile phone displays, industrial control systems, adding a bit of color to objects, and traffic information displays. Great choice. The white models work well in backlighting, audio and video equipment for mobile phones and fax machines, office equipment, indoor and outdoor bulletin boards, and flat backlights for LCDs, switches and identifiers.

These devices are packaged in 8mm tape wrapped around a 7-inch diameter roll and dispensed in terms of luminous intensity and wavelength to ensure a consistent look on the end product. These LEDs are available in infrared reflow soldering and are compliant with RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. The VLMx1300 LED is lead-free and is suitable for lead-free soldering.

The new ChipLED is sampling now and is in volume production, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
