Nordic's low-power Bluetooth wireless solution supports the multi-role pairing of mobile gaming devices with the corresponding APP and other mobile games to achieve multiplayer battles in the game.

Nordic Semiconductor has partnered with Shenzhen Beibei Technology, a Guangdong-based developer specializing in augmented reality (AR) toys and games. The collaboration centers around the use of Nordic’s Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) nRF52832 system-on-chip (SoC) as the wireless connectivity solution for Beibei Technology’s portable AR gaming device, the Geek Unit. The Geek Unit works seamlessly with its companion app via Bluetooth, allowing users to select games, team up, create battlefields, and engage in virtual shooting against real-life players, transforming any environment into an immersive gaming arena. [Image: A visual representation of the Geek Unit in action] Thanks to the Nordic SoC’s support for both central and peripheral low-power Bluetooth roles, each Geek Unit can connect quickly and reliably with a user's smartphone. It also supports multiplayer gameplay with up to 8 players simultaneously, with a communication range of up to 30 meters. This makes it ideal for dynamic, real-world AR gaming experiences. The Geek Unit is compatible with Bluetooth 4.0 or higher smartphones running Android or iOS. It supports two game apps—Geekplay and Geek Unit. The Geekplay app offers a large-scale infrared battle experience where players can use real objects as cover and obstacles. Meanwhile, the Geek Unit app leverages Apple’s ARKit for a more immersive AR experience. Powered by a built-in lithium battery and the energy-efficient Nordic SoC, the device provides up to 300 days of standby time and 15 hours of continuous gameplay. The nRF52832 SoC is part of Nordic’s sixth-generation ultra-low-power wireless solution. It features a 64MHz 32-bit Arm® Cortex® M4F processor, a 2.4GHz multi-protocol radio, and support for Bluetooth 5, ANT™, and proprietary 2.4GHz RF software. With -96dB receiver sensitivity, 512KB of Flash memory, and 64KB of RAM, it delivers powerful performance with minimal power consumption. The S332 software stack, designed for this SoC, is certified for Bluetooth 5 and ANTTM, enabling the development of advanced low-power Bluetooth and ANT applications. It supports multiple Bluetooth roles, including central, peripheral, broadcast, and observer, with up to 20 connections and simultaneous multi-role operation. “We rely on Nordic’s low-power Bluetooth technology to create high-speed personal arena networks that allow multiple players to connect and play together wirelessly,” said Dai Wenjuan, Director of Brand Operations at Beibei Technology. “Nordic has always been professional, responsive, and willing to help us improve our products. For startups like ours, this kind of support is invaluable.”
