Electronic network report: In a recent quarterly earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared that approximately 63,000 customers canceled their orders for the Tesla Model 3 last year. Despite this, he emphasized that these cancellations were just a small portion of the total demand. Since the Model 3 started shipping on July 28, Tesla has been receiving around 1,800 new orders per day. The first 30 units were picked up by Tesla employees, while regular customers are expected to begin taking delivery this fall.

Musk expressed that a high number of cancellations might not be entirely negative. He mentioned that Tesla could easily boost the Model 3 order volume with minimal marketing efforts. However, he also noted that the company is now more focused on maintaining quality and stability rather than rushing to increase sales. This approach reflects a shift in strategy as the company scales up production.

To illustrate his point, Musk compared the situation to a restaurant that sells burgers. If customers have to wait 90 minutes for a burger, the restaurant owner would prefer fewer customers rather than more. According to data, if a customer placed an order for the Model 3 at this time, they wouldn’t receive the car until the end of 2018. This highlights the challenges Tesla faced in meeting demand efficiently.

Looking ahead, Tesla aims to produce 20,000 Model 3s per month by December. Recently, the company held a factory ceremony at its Fremont plant in California. During the event, Musk openly described the manufacturing process as "production hell," acknowledging the difficulties involved in scaling up production. Despite the challenges, the company remains committed to delivering high-quality electric vehicles to its growing customer base.
