Philips Lighting (Amsterdam/European Stock Exchange: LIGHT) made a major announcement at the 2018 Frankfurt Lighting Fair, showcasing its vision for the future of smart, connected lighting. The company unveiled the Interact IoT platform, a revolutionary data-driven solution that empowers customers with intelligent control and management of their lighting systems. This platform is designed to support the growing network of smart lighting, sensors, and devices, enabling advanced data processing and security in a scalable cloud environment.
In addition to the Interact platform, Philips introduced innovative LED and smart connected lighting products tailored for both professional and consumer markets. These solutions not only deliver high-quality illumination but also enhance user experience through seamless integration with IoT ecosystems. One of the most groundbreaking innovations was the release of LiFi-enabled luminaires—lighting systems that use visible light to transmit broadband data at high speeds. This technology allows users to enjoy fast internet connections while using standard office lighting, offering a new dimension of connectivity.
Eric Rondolat, CEO of Philips Lighting, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “Light has become a smart language, and our IoT platform, Interact, provides customers with data-based services that go beyond what they see.†The introduction of LiFi technology marks a significant step forward in combining energy-efficient lighting with high-speed communication, making it ideal for modern office environments.
Philips also launched the Interact Smart Connected Lighting System, which includes several specialized applications such as Interact-City for public spaces, Interact-Office for commercial buildings, and Interact-Retail for large stores. A new addition, Interact-Industry, targets factories, warehouses, and logistics centers, offering tailored lighting solutions for industrial settings.
Another highlight was the Smart Fusion Pole, developed in partnership with American Tower Corporation. This innovative product combines energy-efficient LED street lighting with mobile signal transmission capabilities. The smart poles are designed to improve coverage in remote areas while reducing energy consumption by up to 50%. Huntington Beach, California, will be the first city to deploy 200 of these smart poles.
At the Frankfurt fair, Philips demonstrated its latest advancements in lighting technology, reinforcing its position as a leader in the IoT era. With a focus on sustainability, connectivity, and smart innovation, the company continues to shape the future of lighting and digital infrastructure.
