The method of realizing a large output power white LED includes a method of using a large-sized blue LED chip of 1 mm square, and a method of housing a plurality of small-sized blue LED chips of about 0.3 mm square in one package. With a plurality of small-sized LED chips, even if the luminescence characteristics of the blue LED chips in the package are not uniform, since the luminescence spectra of each chip are superimposed, characteristic deviation between the different packages is less likely to occur.
Multi-chip and large chips have their own advantages and disadvantages. LED chips still have uneven wavelengths of light emission. By using a plurality of chips, the emission wavelength can be averaged, and the wavelength unevenness between the individual LED packages can be reduced. In addition, the LED chip is dispersed in the package, and heat concentration is less likely to occur, and the temperature rise can be easily controlled due to good heat dissipation.
