HTC Vive is one of the most popular VR headsets for gaming, and it continues to be a strong contender in the virtual reality market. According to recent reports, HTC teased a major visual upgrade for its Vive headset ahead of CES 2018. The company took to Twitter to announce that the next generation of the Vive will bring significant improvements to the display.
Currently, the Vive features a resolution of 1080 x 1200 per eye. However, rumors suggest that the new version could boost this to a 4K level, offering gamers an even more immersive experience. Alongside the display upgrade, there are also speculations about new controllers—possibly the Knuckles model—which would enhance user interaction and realism.
This update may also be connected to the Vive Focus, a wireless VR headset launched earlier in 2017. It uses a 3K AMOLED screen (2880x1600 pixels) powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip, making it a powerful standalone device. The success of the Focus might have influenced HTC to push forward with improvements for the traditional Vive setup.
As for pricing, the current Vive is available for $599, down from its original price of $799. This drop suggests that the older model may soon be phased out or further discounted. With Oculus Rift currently priced at $399, HTC may need to adjust its strategy to stay competitive. It's possible that the new Vive could be priced between these two options, offering better value for money.
HTC is expected to reveal more details about the upcoming models on January 8th. Fans and gamers alike are eagerly waiting for the official announcement, hoping for a major leap in performance and visuals. Whether it's higher resolution, better controllers, or improved ergonomics, the next iteration of the Vive could redefine what we expect from a high-end VR headset.
