Explosion-proof walkie-talkies are specially designed communication devices that can be safely used in potentially explosive environments. Unlike regular walkie-talkies, they are not built to withstand explosions, but rather to operate without causing ignition in hazardous areas. These devices undergo strict testing and certification to ensure they meet safety standards for use in dangerous atmospheres.
1. After two years of continuous use, it is essential to return the explosion-proof walkie-talkie to the manufacturer for retesting and re-evaluation of its explosion-proof rating. Over time, components may degrade, which could reduce the device's safety level. Regular maintenance ensures continued compliance with safety regulations and prevents potential accidents.
2. Never replace batteries or other accessories in a hazardous area. Sparks generated during disassembly can lead to fires or explosions. Even if the device has been certified by an explosion-proof agency, avoid exposing the connector when used in a dangerous environment. If the connector is not in use, always cover it with a dust cap to prevent accidental contact or exposure.
3. Do not attempt to disassemble or modify any explosion-proof walkie-talkie that has been tested and certified (such as those from Shanxi Jizhou Electric). Unauthorized modifications can compromise the internal structure and void the explosion-proof certification. Only the original manufacturer, working in a certified facility, should perform any repairs or modifications.
4. Always turn off the power switch before charging the device. Avoid making calls or transmitting signals while charging, as this could cause damage to internal components or even result in battery overheating and fire hazards.
5. Never remove or bend the antenna. The antenna is a critical component for signal transmission, and damaging it can affect performance and safety.
6. Never short-circuit the battery’s positive and negative terminals. The explosion-proof mark on the device indicates that it has passed rigorous testing and is suitable for use in specific hazardous environments. This mark also includes information such as the maximum operating temperature, required battery model, user manual reference, and the classification of the hazardous area.
7. Explosion-proof models are certified by recognized agencies like the Factory Mutual (FM) Research Council. They are classified into different grades, such as IS (Intrinsically Safe) and NI (Non-Incendive), with various division and group ratings. For example, IS/I Safe Class I, II, III Div 1, Grp CDEFG, and NI Class I Div 2, Grp A. The temperature code T3C indicates the maximum surface temperature the device can reach in operation.
Only use explosion-proof radios in accordance with their designated specifications. The explosion-proof marking must be applied by the manufacturer before the product leaves the factory. It is strictly prohibited to alter or "upgrade" the device elsewhere and affix a false explosion-proof label. Doing so can endanger lives and violate safety laws.
