Modern ampoules are manufactured in glass tubes and are widely used for preparing injectable medications as well as isolating high-purity airborne chemicals. The neck of the ampoule is sealed using an open flame to ensure an airtight environment, and the top is marked for easy identification. When it's time to use the medication, pressure is applied to break the bottleneck, allowing the liquid inside to be accessed.

Before opening, a grinding wheel is used to create a scratch at the neck of the ampoule. The area is then disinfected, and the nipple is raised so that all the liquid flows into the main body of the ampoule. Afterward, the bottleneck is carefully broken. Some ampoules are designed with an easy-folding feature, which indicates the pre-cut section on the nipple. This allows the user to press the nipple in the correct direction, making the breaking process simpler and more efficient.

It is clear that the quality and ease of use of ampoules are critical factors in their design and manufacturing. To ensure safety and performance, several national standards such as GB2637 and YBB00332002 have been established. These standards specify the size, measurement methods, and breaking force requirements for ampoules.

The principle behind measuring the breaking force of an ampoule involves determining the amount of force required to separate the neck from the main body. This ensures that the ampoule can be opened without excessive effort, while still maintaining structural integrity during storage and transport.

Ampoule Breaking Force Table:

Specification (ML) Bracket Distance L=(L1+L2) MM Breaking Force, N Minimum Value Maximum
1 36= (18+18) 30 90 2 5
100 10 60= (22+38) 110 20 120

After the ampoule is broken, the resulting surface should be flat and smooth to avoid any risk of contamination or injury. The testing equipment must meet specific requirements, including an accuracy of 0.1N, a test speed of 10mm/min, and a force measurement range of 0–200N.

The testing device is typically set up with two metal brackets positioned at a 90° angle relative to the central axis of the ampoule. A controlled pressure is applied between the brackets until the ampoule breaks. It’s important to align the scoring mark correctly to ensure accurate results. If the score is not aligned properly, the breaking force may increase, leading to inconsistent measurements.

Jinan Pu Chuang Electromechanical Co., Ltd. offers ampoule breaking force testers that are developed based on GB2637 and YBB00332002 standards. These devices are designed to meet all the requirements of the regulations and are widely used by pharmaceutical companies, ampoule manufacturers, research institutions, and drug inspection agencies.
