Smart Grid Construction Helps the Emergence of Qinghai Energy Industry

With the rapid economic and social development, the demand for electricity in Qinghai Province has been increasing. Qinghai has placed the development of energy and electricity in an important position in the province's economic development strategy during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period. On March 7, General Manager of the State Grid Corporation of China and party secretary Liu Zhenya held talks with the visiting Qinghai provincial party committee deputy secretary and governor Luo Huining at the company’s headquarters. The two sides exchanged views on accelerating the construction of a strong smart grid in Qinghai, supporting the development of new energy industries, and protecting the power supply in Qinghai, and emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation, enhance the power grid protection capabilities, and promote the development of Qinghai.

Luo Huining, on behalf of the Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, thanked the State Grid Corporation of China for its strong support for the development of Qinghai. He said that the successful operation of the Qinghai-Tibet network project has effectively supported the economic and social development in Qinghai. The 750-kilovolt power grid enters the Qaidam circular economic zone, which will lay a solid foundation for its subsequent development. The smooth construction of Qinghai Photovoltaic Base and the successful promotion of Yushu disaster reconstruction cannot be separated from the strong support of the State Grid Corporation of China. In short, the two sides have forged a deep friendship in long-term cooperation. The State Grid Corporation of China has made outstanding contributions to the promotion of economic and social development in Qinghai.

Luo Huining emphasized that as a minority area, Qinghai’s infrastructure is still relatively backward. It is hoped that the State Grid Corporation of China will continue to increase foreign investment into the country, actively strengthen cross-regional power dispatching, and deal with power shortages in some areas and parts of Qinghai. At the same time, it is hoped that the State Grid Corporation will strengthen the construction of a strong smart grid in Qinghai, help the rising of the solar energy industry in Qinghai, and turn resource advantages into economic advantages. The Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government will, as always, support the development of the State Grid Corporation of China in Qinghai and do a good job of the implementation and coordination of the relevant projects.

Liu Zhenya thanked the Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government for their support for the work of the State Grid Corporation of China. He pointed out that the development of Qinghai Power Grid is an important achievement of the long-term strategic cooperation between the two sides. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, the Party Central Committee and the State Council will continue to deepen the development of the western region and accelerate the development of Tibetan areas. The implementation of relevant policies objectively requires power grid protection to be more effective. In the next step, the State Grid Corporation of China will earnestly implement the arrangements made by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, focus on the overall economic and social development of Qinghai, increase the intensity of aid for the east and the west, and do a good job in power development and orderly power supply. Faster development makes greater contribution.

Liu Zhenya emphasized that to ensure energy supply, we must give full play to the network market functions of the power grid and optimize the allocation of resources in a wider range. State Grid Corporation of China will, through scientific and technological innovation, develop a strong smart grid with UHV as the backbone of the grid, and promote the development of new energy industries such as solar energy. At the same time, the State Grid Corporation of China will also accelerate the implementation of the 750-kilovolt interconnection project between Xinjiang and Qinghai, promote the construction of cross-regional transmission channels, and accelerate the networking of Yushu and the main network. It is suggested that both parties should jointly study power grid power supply planning, jointly strive for policy support, and promote the development of Qinghai's power industry.
