Potential Applications of Nano-LEDs in Biomedical Equipment
A few days ago, Sergio Brovelli's research team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the United States cooperated with the Alberto Paleari research group of the University of Milan, Italy to develop a glass-based inorganic LED embedded in semiconductor nanoparticles. In this device, the tin dioxide nanoparticles are wrapped in a tin oxide and embedded in a glass material. The glass-based material can emit light in the ultraviolet spectrum and be integrated on the chip. By adjusting the thickness of the nanoparticle shell, the electrical response of the entire material can be controlled. This device combines the chemical and mechanical stability of the glass with electrical and electroluminescent properties. Therefore, it can be used in harsh environments (such as immersed in physiological solution or directly implanted into the human body) and is expected to be used in the manufacture of biomedical equipment.
