SETi undertakes US Navy portable water purification project with UV LED technology

Recently, US sensor electronics company SETi won a project of the US Naval Research Office to develop a stand-alone portable water purification system for military use in the wild. The system requires water quality monitoring and disinfection, and when small-scale combatants live in the wild, they can use the system to obtain drinking water from any source of water.

SETi's UV LED technology monitors water quality, improves system effectiveness, and reduces the need for chemical disinfectants such as chlorine and iodine, making water purification systems more portable and healthier. SETi has proven its ability to develop this system. In a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation, SETi's UV LED water treatment system demonstrated strong bactericidal efficacy for commercial use.

Cody Reese, project manager of the US Naval Research Office, said that UV LEDs have great potential in water purification, which can improve the safety and durability of water purification systems and reduce energy consumption. UV LED water purification systems can also be used in water treatment plants.
