Circuit Analysis: One of the key requirements for a backlight driving system is to maintain a consistent brightness regardless of external conditions. This means that a stable current source must be used to power the LED backlight. The circuit shown in the figure represents one of the simplest forms of a constant current source. When the circuit is operating, the voltage across resistor R9 remains constant at approximately 1.7V. This voltage is equal to the sum of the voltage across the LED (VLL1) and the base-emitter conduction voltage of transistor Q2. Since this voltage is fixed, the current flowing through R9 will also remain constant. This current is essentially the same as the emitter and collector currents of Q2, which in turn ensures that the current flowing through the backlight LED D1 is also constant. As a result, the LED receives a steady current, typically around 10 mA, which helps maintain uniform brightness. The value of R9 is chosen to be 150 Ω in order to achieve this desired current level. This simple configuration is commonly used in many backlighting applications where stability and reliability are important. Understanding how this circuit works is essential for designing efficient and long-lasting LED backlight systems.
