Google and the company cooperate to develop the AR shopping market

On the morning of January 5th, Google launched a very useful application in the field of augmented reality (AR): consumers can see what they might buy without leaving home.

Google announced on Wednesday that both BMW and Gap will deploy the company's Tango 3D scanning project. This technology uses a mobile device's camera and sensor to overlay digital images on physical space, similar to Pocket Elves Go.

Both retail deals were announced at CES, which also revealed Google’s ambition to integrate map technology with its core business promotion business.

With the rapid development of virtual reality and augmented reality technology, analysts expect the retail industry to be the biggest beneficiary. IDC estimates that the market will expand from $5.2 billion in 2015 to $162 billion in 2020.

IDC analyst Chris Chute believes that car dealership stores will become a lucrative long-term use case as consumers become increasingly reluctant to enter traditional retail stores.

Working with Google, BMW will test a new app that will showcase the i3 city car and the i8 sports car on the smartphone screen. Car buyers can walk around the superimposed digital car image and can “put” it in their own driveway or garage to see the actual effect. Users can also choose from 6 colors, 4 decorations and wheels, all in high-definition images.

Although only through the small screen display of the smart phone, in the recent demonstration process, many consumers still get a very real feeling, even lifted their legs, stepped into the car, and operated the lights and radio in the car.

BMW will deploy the app to dealers in 11 countries.

In addition to this BMW app, Google also announced two other advances in Tango technology on Wednesday. A newly developed app makes it easy for consumers to try on Gap-branded clothing. Google has also added a hardware partner: ASUS Zenphone is also currently compatible with Tango technology. (Book)
