Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction is the Main Direction of LED Lighting

Since nearly 50% of the world's carbon emissions currently come from power and thermal energy production sectors, saving energy and reducing carbon emissions are important ways to save energy and reduce emissions. At present, China's total social power consumption continues to climb. In 2010, the entire society used 4.19 trillion kWh of electricity, an increase of 14.56% over the previous year. From January to November 2011, it was 4.28 trillion kWh, an increase of 11.85% over the same period of last year. Therefore, saving energy is an important part of completing energy-saving and emission reduction work.

On the morning of November 4, 2011, the press conference for the "China's phase-out incandescent light roadmap" was held in Beijing. At the press conference, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) introduced the "announcement on gradually prohibiting the import and sale of incandescent lamps for general lighting" jointly issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. From October 1, 2012, it was decided to gradually ban the import and sale of incandescent lamps for general lighting according to the power level.

According to the National Development and Reform Commission, China's lighting electricity consumption accounts for about 12% of the total electricity consumption in the society, while energy-saving lamps save 60% to 80% of electricity compared to incandescent lamps. Through the implementation of the roadmap, it is expected that China will achieve annual electricity savings of 48 billion kilowatt-hours. In 2011, it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 48 million tons. The phase-out of incandescent lamps is of great significance in promoting the optimization and upgrading of the structure of China's lighting industry, promoting the implementation of the “Twelfth Five-Year” energy-saving and emission-reduction targets, and actively responding to global climate change.

LED (Light-Emitting-Diode in Chinese) is a semiconductor that can convert electrical energy into light energy. It changes the principle of the tungsten filament of incandescent lamps and the light emission of three primary colors of energy-saving lamps, and uses electric field emission.
