Competing for the LTE equipment market in the Asia-Pacific region

Market research organization In-Stat said that the top seven LTE base station suppliers in the Asia-Pacific region are Alcatel-Lucent, Ericson, Huawei, NEC, Nokia Siemens, Samsung and ZTE. (ZTE), which includes 94% market share; however, based on the LTE contracts and deployment of wireless operators, In-Stat predicts that the leading LTE infrastructure equipment supplier ranking will change year after year.

In 2009, NEC was the market leader because of NTT's main contract; in 2010, Ericsson won the dominant position by increasing the deployment of more countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The latest In-Stat research report pointed out that Samsung will become the dominant supplier of LTE infrastructure equipment in the Asia-Pacific region in 2011. It is expected that more than a quarter of LTE base stations will be provided by Samsung in 2011. Samsung is expected to complete the deployment of more than 10,000 LTE base stations in the Asia-Pacific region in 2011; unlike Ericsson ’s extensive strategy of supporting operators across the region in this region, Samsung ’s layout is highly concentrated on several South Korean operators such as LG Uplus , KT and SK Telecom.

"An important observation is that the LTE facilities market is not static," analyst Chris Kissel said. "Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and ZTE will see strong growth in this region. By 2015, Huawei is predicted to be It is the leader in Asia and has the largest number of LTE base stations. However, this is still an undetermined number. At present, there are still 17% of base station deployments whose suppliers have not decided on their infrastructure.

In-Stat's research report includes the following observations:

In 2015, due to the specific implementation of LTE installation in the Asia-Pacific region, it is expected that at least 10% of the growth of Yilixin, Huawei, Nokia Siemens, Alcatel-Lucent and ZTE will come from the new LTE large base station (Marco Base StaTIon) installation.

Ë™ By 2015, Asia-Pacific countries will have more than 1 billion LTE users. China, India, Indonesia and Japan are the top four LTE population countries.

Ë™ In 2010, the four major suppliers, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Huawei and Yilixin, each had a double-digit market share in the Asia-Pacific LTE EPC / router / gateway equipment market. Alcatel-Lucent clearly occupies a third of the dominant position. Although Alcatel-Lucent is expected to maintain its leading position, the dominance will be greatly reduced.

From 2009 to 2015, the operator's investment in the Asia-Pacific LTE Packet Backhaul Equipment will exceed US $ 500 million. Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Ericsson, and Huawei will account for at least 57% of total spending.
