4K Correspondence NHK Japan 8K TV Program Testing

NHK of Japan stated that it is currently conducting transmission testing of 8K TV programs. Because of the well-known reasons, the transmission of 8K ultra-high-definition signals has a very high requirement for bandwidth, so it needs to be transmitted via satellite instead of traditional and cable television networks. NHK will use the Japan Broadcast Satellite Corporation’s BSAT-1 type satellite for transmission, broadcast 17 channel. In terms of technology, the original code rate of the 8K ultra-high-definition picture is 72 Gb/s. After re-encoding compression, it will be reduced to 85 Mb/s to facilitate more stable reception.

NHK Labs, which is responsible for the transmission of 8K TV programs, said that encoding will use HEVC, which is a familiar H.265 encoding method, to support MMT multi-channel transmission, and will support 22.2 channels in sound output. NHK said that the current 8K transmission has achieved great success. In September last year, it tested an 8K broadcast of Tchaikovsky's sixth Symphony. However, in general, 8K is still in the testing phase. As early as 2016, Japanese citizens can watch the 8K pilot program. However, the question that needs to be faced now is: When will 8K TV enter the homes of ordinary people?
