According to recent international media reports, renowned American rapper Farrell Williams is set to join Alibaba's Double 11 celebration as a special guest. This collaboration is expected to generate significant buzz and attract more participants to the shopping festival. The event marks one of Farrell Williams' first major ventures into the Chinese online market. In addition to his performance, he will also unveil a custom-designed G-Star jeans collection in partnership with Alibaba.
The Double 11 Party, often referred to as the "Single Festival Party," takes place just before the massive shopping event. This year, it will feature performances from a wide range of celebrities, including actors, designers, athletes, and even collaborators from Chanel. Among the confirmed guests are singer Karen Mok, actor Zhang Ziyi, and pianist Lang Lang. Farrell Williams will also be joined by surprise guests, making the event even more exciting for fans.
Alibaba aims to extend the Double 11 shopping period beyond the traditional 24-hour window, as over 500 million people are expected to take part this year. A total of 140,000 brands—60,000 of which are international—are participating, along with 15 million products. Beyond discounts, many brands are transforming physical stores into "smart stores" that offer features like virtual try-ons, digital payments, and enhanced delivery services.
Last year, Alibaba reported sales of $7 billion within the first two hours of the event, with total sales reaching nearly $18 billion on the day. That marked a 32% increase compared to 2015. As the world's largest online shopping event continues to grow, this year’s Double 11 promises to be even more impressive, with new innovations and celebrity involvement helping to drive engagement and excitement worldwide.
