Honeywell's new push-change thermal management material to extend LED life
It is understood that the Honeywell LTM6300-SP series phase change material is a polymer matrix, which can replace the traditionally produced silica gel substrate which is aged at high temperature and embedded in the heat conductive metal. The LTM6300-SP polymer matrix is ​​internally filled with micron-sized thermally conductive metal particles. However, based on trade secrets, Honeywell did not disclose its exact size. The principle of heat dissipation is that the material softens when the temperature rises. The metal particles are forced to directly touch the heat source of the LED, thus conducting heat to the material and then improving the heat dissipation performance.
According to Brian Daniels, chief technology officer at Honeywell Electronic Materials (HEM), this thermal management material enhances LED performance, extends its life, and ensures that its color does not dim due to overheating. Daniels pointed out that "because LEDs are semiconductors, high-power LED arrays will require thermal management materials to handle heat, and the LTM6300-SP series is achieved by phase change." This HEM is for various LED lighting. The first phase-change material developed by the application is characterized by its ability to react to heat and control the phase change from solid to softer liquids, thus improving heat dissipation as the system temperature increases. The harmful heat that may cause the LED to fade in advance, change color, or even burn out, is carried away from the LED semiconductor component at a rate of temperature rise.
