Robot as a judge? AI computer predicts the accuracy of the case by 79%

Scientists have created an artificial intelligence computer that can assess legal evidence, consider ethical issues, and then decide how the case should be decided. Scientists say the computer has an accuracy rate of 79% for case prediction.
The algorithm behind it looked at 584 data sets on cases of torture, insults, fair trials, and privacy. The computer was able to review the information and make its own decisions. In most cases, these decisions were in line with the judgments of senior European judges.
Researchers say computer judges are unlikely to soon replace human judges, but can be used to help them. Dr. Nikolaos Aletras, Principal Investigator from the University of London, UK, said: "We don't think artificial intelligence will soon replace judges or lawyers, but we think these people will find artificial intelligence very useful and can help identify patterns quickly in cases. It can also be used to highlight cases that are most likely to violate the European Convention on Human Rights."
During the creation of the program, the researchers found that judges of the European Court of Human Rights tend to pay more attention to non-legal factors rather than the strict legal arguments made in the case.
