Artificial intelligence (AI) has become one of the most talked-about technologies, steadily making its way into various industries and driving innovation, especially in the automotive sector. Car manufacturers are increasingly integrating AI to enhance the overall driving experience, offering more intuitive and personalized interactions for drivers.
According to recent reports, automakers are launching new AI-powered systems or expanding existing patented technologies to tap into the growing automotive connectivity market. In the near future, in-vehicle infotainment systems will rely heavily on AI, enabling features like smart navigation that can find destinations, voice-controlled music volume adjustments, and even advanced security monitoring systems.

Industry insiders note that Hyundai-Kia Group is expanding its Kakao AI platform from premium models to more affordable vehicles such as the Hyundai Sonata, Avante, and Kia Sportage. Meanwhile, in March 2018, South Korean search giant Naver entered the car networking space by launching "Away," a smart driving platform aimed at improving in-car user experiences.
Telecom companies have also been quick to respond. In September 2017, SK Telecom introduced NUGU, an AI voice assistant, within its own navigation app. The service was downloaded by over 3 million users within just 18 days, showing strong consumer interest. However, Google’s Android Auto has yet to gain traction in South Korea due to strict national security regulations.
Experts believe that the automotive industry is the ideal environment for AI integration. As more consumers show interest in "smart cars," this trend is expected to drive further research and development in AI-driven vehicle technologies, leading to smarter, safer, and more connected driving experiences in the years ahead.
