Ericsson Appoints Alibaba Director Eckholm as New CEO

Ericsson announced that the company's board of directors has appointed Alibaba's director Borje Ekholm as president and CEO. Eckholm will officially take office on January 16, 2017, and will also enter the company's board of directors.

Prior to joining Ericsson, Eckholm was the CEO of Patricia Industries, a division of Investor AB. Prior to this, Eckholm served as President and CEO of Investor AB from 2005 to 2015. In addition, Eckholm serves in companies such as Investor Growth Capital, Novare Kapital AB and McKinsey.

Eckholm was born in 1963 and holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and a master's degree in business administration from the European Business School.

Before January 16, 2017, Jan Frykhammar will continue to serve as interim CEO of Ericsson. In July of this year, Hans Vesterberg stepped down as president, CEO and board member of Ericsson. Subsequently, Ericsson appointed the company's executive vice president, CFO Fleckhammer as interim CEO until the company appointed a new CEO.
