Diodes Introduces High Efficiency Single Winding Inductor 500V Step-Down LED Driver

Diodes Incorporated introduces the AL1678 LED driver family for non-dimmable LED retrofit bulbs that do not require universal lighting products with a power factor greater than 0.7. These 500V step-down converter LED drivers provide up to 15W of output power for a wide range of LED lighting applications, such as A/B/P and GU10 lamps, at all bus voltages, reducing total circuit material cost while ensuring high performance.

Available in an SO-7 package, the AL1678 series offers a wide range of 500V MOSFETs with different current ratings, allowing designers to choose the most suitable driver to meet the wattage and cost requirements of different bulbs.

The new driver family improves drive topology, delivers significant circuit flexibility, and provides precise constant current linearity and load regulation over a universal input range of 85VAC to 277VAC. In addition, the device reduces electromagnetic interference by using a critical conduction mode, and the efficiency is over 90%, which is more compatible with electromagnetic compatibility.

The total material cost of the AL1678 LED driver is low because no external high voltage MOSFETs and auxiliary windings are required, only a single external inductor is required. Its integrated protection features include undervoltage lockout, overtemperature protection, LED open and short circuit protection, and thermal foldback to help improve the reliability of LED retrofit lamp systems at high temperatures. The device's SO-7 package enhances electrical insulation and moisture resistance.
