SSD? Seagate is more optimistic about hybrid hard drives

Although the solid-state drive is fierce, although the hybrid drive is still a new thing, but the traditional drive maker Seagate is more optimistic about the latter.

Seagate CEO Steven Luczo recently said to financial analysts: "What I want to say is that to the best of our knowledge, Apple sells solid-state drives that are only a small part of mechanical hard drives. I think less than 3%. , certainly not more than 5%....I think that with the introduction of hybrid hard drive in Seagate last quarter, we can basically get the features and functions of SSDs with the price and capacity of mechanical hard drives."

Solid-state drives are much better than traditional hard drives in terms of performance and reliability, but the disadvantage is that the price is still relatively expensive, and the capacity cannot be upgraded to the TB level in a short period of time. The so-called hybrid drives combine the characteristics of the above two products. There are both large capacity and flash modules used to accelerate, and prices are closer to those of ordinary consumers.

However, the biggest problem with hybrid hard drives is that the concept has been proposed for a long time. The real product is only the Seagate Momentus XT. Western Digital and other hard drive manufacturers have not revealed any related product plans. If only the Seagate family pushes hard, it is obviously very difficult for the hybrid hard disk to become a climate, and the goal of 80% popularity in five years looks very far away.

Seagate admits that SSDs have a lot of benefits for enterprise customers, but considering their unit price, ordinary consumers still prefer mechanical storage.
