Nokia's Q2 smartphone sales decrease by 39% still dominated by Saipan

According to foreign media reports, Nokia released the second quarter earnings report on the 19th. The company’s smartphone sales in the quarter decreased by 39% year-on-year to 10.2 million units. Total revenue decreased by 19% to 7.54 billion euros; net losses increased by a factor of 2 to 1.53 billion euros, compared to a loss of 492 million euros in the same period of last year.

The smartphone business is the department that has suffered the most blows. The company has shifted from Saipan to Windows Phone operating system, and it still does not appear to have reversed its performance. Because most of the 10.2 million smartphones it sells are still Symbian smart phones. The company sold only 4 million Lumia smartphones using the WP operating system.

The decline in the sales volume of Symbian operating phones did not compensate for the unfavorable sales of Lumia phones.

Nokia’s smartphone revenue declined by 34% in the quarter.

Nokia sold 73.5 million feature phones in the quarter, up 2% year-on-year, but the average selling price fell by 14% to 31 euros. Functional phone revenue also dropped by 11% to 2.29 billion euros.

Nokia Maps business revenue increased by 4% to 283 million euros. However, this operating loss was 95 million euros, a slight improvement from the loss of 104 million euros a year ago.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ quarterly sales fell 8% to 3.34 billion euros. Operating losses increased to 227 million euros, compared with operating losses of 111 million euros during the same period last year.
