NeoPac launches the world's brightest LED (Figure)

Multi-chip, ultra-high power, single package NeoPac illuminator assembled at Cotco, using Cree's EZ1000 chip. The luminous flux efficiency of the illuminator reaches 50 lumens per watt with a 20 watt drive and the junction temperature maintains a 70 base.

NeoPac Opto, a subsidiary of the NeoPac Lighting Group, announced that its patented system-in-package LEDs have a light output of more than 1000 lumens. As a leader in the solid-state lighting industry, NeoPac is always at the forefront of technological breakthroughs. By demonstrating this breakthrough in LED packaging technology, NeoPac Opto has raised the industry's new LED brightness output to a new high.

At 720 mA, 20 watts, LED luminous flux exceeds 1000 lumens to reach a new world record. There is no doubt that it will become the new standard for general lighting LED light source applications. NeoPac's light engine seamlessly integrates the first LED package manufacturing and secondary thermal management solutions to become a system-in-packaged light source component. Most importantly, the 1000 lumens light output is measured at 25 degrees ambient temperature and 20 watts.

Through the patented micro heat pipe on the heat dissipation module, the LED junction temperature of the illuminator is controlled below 70 degrees. At 350 mA, the illuminator has a luminous efficacy of 70 lumens per watt and an initial luminous flux of 1100 lumens at 20 watts. The initial decay rate of lumen output is only 9%.

NeoPac Lighting Group Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Chen said that NeoPac's LED packaging technology is far ahead. Providing 1000 lumens of output in a single packaged LED will be a milestone in accelerating solid-state lighting technology to common applications.

As for the multi-chip, point-light LED packaging platform, it is not difficult to achieve an initial luminous flux of 1000, since the bonding is initially at 25 degrees. Since the junction temperature of the ultra-high power LED package for practical applications is much higher than 25 degrees or even 120 degrees, the initial lumen at 25 degrees is meaningless for general lighting applications.

At high junction temperatures, LED output lumens will degrade rapidly. For single-package, ultra-high power applications, the thermal density in the package is critical. High density hotspot issues are difficult to solve at the level of packaging, modules and even lighting systems. Therefore, the PN junction temperature of the LED must be as low as possible, which means that the package and system thermal resistance must also be well controlled.

Jeffrey Chen, Chairman and CEO of NeoPac Lighting Group, said that our technology is a revolutionary breakthrough in the solid-state lighting industry. In the past two years, we have successfully developed a new LED technology platform for general lighting. Named the NeoPa Universal Platform. Based on this patented platform, the LED package and system thermal resistance can be greatly reduced. The LED junction temperature is controlled to a very low level. As for general lighting applications, we are talking about lumen maintenance or useful lumens rather than initial lumens. High maintenance lumen output and high maintenance efficiency are significant for the lighting industry and thermal management work and are key to achieving this goal. Based on the NeoPa Universal Platform, we have been developing NeoBulb indoor and outdoor solutions and have completed a series of product line developments - NeoBulb indoor lighting and NeoBulb outdoor lighting. The ultra-high brightness, point source NeoPac light engine solution can also be used in a wide range of applications, fiber optics, headlights and more.

The 1000 lumens NeoPac light engine will be on display at the 4th China International Solid State Lighting Forum in Shanghai on August 22-24.
