Micron: No problem with 20nm flash SSD durability

Micron: No problem with 20nm flash SSD durability For the 20nm process technology that Intel and Micron have initially applied, the industry is generally concerned that the progress of the process will lead to shortened NAND flash read and write life. However, Micron executives said recently that the 20nm process due to the application of HKMG technology makes the durability and 25nm products basically the same.

At a recent financial meeting for analysts, Micron CFO Ronald Foster stated that HKMG is necessary to support flash read/write life as a process technology previously used on CPUs and graphics cards. Currently, Intel and Micron believe that the flash memory of the 20nm process is long-term. There is no problem with the read and write life.

Early this month, Intel and Micron’s flash memory joint venture organization IMFT formally announced that it will begin trial production of the world's first 20nm process 128Gb flash memory. With this product, the 128GB SSD can be manufactured in a single chip package. The goal of this product is for next-generation SSDs with capacities up to 1TB, as well as smartphones and tablets.
