JBL TEMPO J03B Headphones Reviews
When the J02B in-ear headphones test article was released, we mentioned that JBL's new "TEMPO" series has three products, in addition to J02B, there are J01B earphones and J03B headphones. And today we are evaluating this J03B, which is priced at 299 yuan, the highest price in the "TEMPO" series.

J03B is simple and generous, and its outer surface is printed with a striking orange JBL LOGO. The overall visual style of the earphone is consistent with J02B. On the inside of the left earmuff of J03B, there is printed "!" from LOGO, which can be used to distinguish between left and right. In the detail processing, J03B's mold precision and assembly precision are better, and the workmanship is more refined.
The connection between the head beam and the head frame of J03B adopts the rotating shaft design, which can be rotated 90° inward. It can reduce the certain volume when it is stored, and can be conveniently placed in the portable storage bag in the accessory. In addition, its ear shell portion can be rotated up and down by 90°, which can better fit the head shape. The size of the J03B ear shell and ear pad is not large, and the earphone is completely worn by the ear. Its head beam and ear pads are wrapped in leather and the leather is soft. At the same time, its ear pad is thicker and more comfortable to wear. However, the pressure of the head of the J03B on the top of the head and the force of the earmuffs pressing inward on the ears are relatively large, and there may be a feeling of pinching the ears when used.

In the structure of the earphone unit, the J03B adopts a closed design with a 40mm diameter driver, the earphone impedance is 32 ohms, and the sensitivity is 112dB. We took the J03B down for about 70 hours, using Apple iPod Touch 4, SONY Sony B162F portable player as the main reference source, Monitor 02 US, Monitor 01 PS sound card as the auxiliary reference source; AKG K404, Sennheiser PX80 as the main contrast Headphones, Beyerdynamic DTX300p, Sony MDR-ZX600 as auxiliary reference headphones. When used, J03B has a leaky sound. Among them, it has a weak influence on the surrounding people at medium and small volume, but has a significant influence at a large volume.
Low-frequency performance: J03B has a relatively low-frequency sense, and the depth, strength and elasticity of the dive are relatively good and the speed is relatively fast. However, its low frequency is hard, no PX80 is soft, but it is not harder than K404. The resolution and control performance of the J03B low frequency is very poor. Compared with the K404, its low frequency is not clean enough, solid, and the sound is relatively rough. Moreover, the sound of the slightly larger J03B is disordered, and its sound will be confused when it is larger. After switching to the sound card source, the resolution and control power of the J03B low frequency will be improved, the sound is slightly condensed and solid, but it is still difficult to control.
IF performance: J03B IF sound is slightly full compared to K404, but compared with PX80, the latter is more full. Among them, its dynamic performance in the middle and low frequency parts and the vocal midrange is relatively good, while the dynamic performance in the middle and high frequency parts is general. In vocal expression, J03B is relatively more suitable for expressing baritone. The performance of J03B IF resolution is slightly better in the lower frequency part, and the sound is relatively clean. However, compared to K404, the resolution of J03B IF is still inferior, and the level of sound is not clear.
High frequency performance: J03B is relatively dark and the sound is softer. However, its high frequency density, dynamics, resolution and control are more general. Compared with K404, the sound of K404 is obviously fuller and more delicate, while the sound of J03B is lacking in aura, and some distortion may occur when it is slightly dynamic. In addition, J03B's transient performance is not enough, it does not have a sharp sense of speed when expressing plucked instruments.
Listening summary:
As far as practical use is concerned, the sound of J03B has the same problem as the J02B in-ear headphones of the same series, that is, the sound has a "quantity" and no "quality". Specifically, the low-frequency part of J03B is relatively thick and full, but the resolution and control performance are very poor, the sound is rough and not delicate, lack of level and no detail, and the sound is relatively stiff and rigid. And its high frequency part, the sound is not full enough and not clean enough, transient performance is not good. Overall, the sound quality of J03B is relatively poor, compared with the AKG K404 and Sennheiser PX80 at the same price.
to sum up:
The J03B is the only headset in the JBL "TEMPO" series and is the most positioned. Its compact appearance, exquisite workmanship, can be used as a street headset. However, J03B's sound performance is poor, lower than our expectations, and does not show any acoustic advantages of JBL. The same problem also appeared in its series of J02B in-ear headphones. Therefore, the sound quality of the "TEMPO" series headphones needs to be improved, and the product needs JBL to be further improved.
