Apple wants to use VR technology to test driverless cars

Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that with virtual reality, Apple will continue to secretly develop driverless car software.

Bloomfield’s Mark Gurman and Gerrit De Vynck reported that Apple’s team will test their driverless car software through a VR simulator so they don’t have to take the system to public roads for testing. According to reports, at least part of the car operating software is being developed in Canada.

Because Apple has been keeping a close eye on their VR and driverless car plans, recent reports have found that Apple is combining the two technologies, which also gives us a glimpse of Apple’s plans for the future of virtual reality and driverless cars. .

Doug Bowman, an VR expert who joined Apple in January, has now become a member of the Driverless Vehicle Platform Simulation Team. The computer professor at Virginia Tech University once wrote a book about the 3D user interface. Interestingly, Bowman was one of the first experts to receive Microsoft's $100,000 HoloLens research grant. His research topic is "collaborative analysis of large-scale mixed reality data."

Bloomberg previously reported that Apple is focusing on driverless car software rather than physical vehicles. According to the latest reports, "There are dozens of Apple software engineers developing a driverless car operating system in Canada." Most of these software engineers only joined Apple in the past six months, and some of them came from the QNX team of Blackberry.
